STATEMENT | The UK Government’s Covid-19 Recovery Strategy
12th May, 2020 by Matt Wordingham
Following the Prime Minister’s statement on Sunday 10th May and subsequent publication of the UK Government’s COVID-19 Recovery Strategy yesterday, Bowls England is seeking clarification from Government in order to publish the best operational guidance for our clubs and members ahead of any return to play.
We will communicate guidance as soon as it is practicable. We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time.
LATEST AS AT 6TH APRIL 2020
I have had several questions regarding ‘rollups’ being part of one’s daily exercise.
I have spoken to Bowls England who advise that the Govt Guidelines state:
Playgrounds, sports courts and pitches, and outdoor gyms or similar. These businesses and venues must close.
So, in Bowls England’s view:
There are no exceptions to ‘outdoor recreation’ listed therefore our understanding is that no bowls club should be open for any form of play until the Government advises otherwise.
I trust that clarifies the position.
Set out below is the email received today (21st March) from SCBA
Sorry to burden you with another email.
Much of what is said repeats/clarifies earlier guidance, but four key points:
- BE wish to encourage all club members to pay their 2020 subscriptions. Clubs will need this income to ensure they are able to survive till bowling resumes.
- 2020 BE Affiliation fees will be returned to Clubs, but this could take a number of weeks to achieve.
- BE will be seeking and issuing guidance on ‘casual play’.
- BE will also be issuing guidance on the minimum maintenance required to ensure your green is playable when bowling resumes.
As a reminder subs can be paid in installments as set out on the membership notice received by all members. Apart from maintenance of the green there are the usual overheads to be paid i.e council tax, heating and lighting (although heating is set lower) and others.
DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE HAS RELUCTANTLY DECIDED THAT THE CLUB WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. ALL MATCHES , INDOORS AND OUTDOORS INCLUDING THE OPENING DAYS HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED.
REMINDER – MEMBERSHIP FEES ARE DUE BY THE 6th APRIL.
The fees remain at the same rate as 2019 and the subs invoice will be sent out by e-mail and post.
DO NOT FORGET THE MENS OPENING DAY IS THE 11th APRIL AND THE LADIES ON 13TH APRIL. Both ladies and mens first few match availability sheets are now in the porch for your attention
